Good afternoon!

We have a special request that we hope you might help us with to reach our goal while also participating in something that also supports a good cause. Some background:

  • Every other year the organ transplant community of people from around the world come together to compete in a variety of sports and to celebrate the gift of life. The event encompasses all ages of recipients with a few competitive categories open to living donors (those who have given a kidney, portion of their liver, etc.).  The 2021 World Transplant Games were supposed to be hosted in Houston this May after being absent from American soil for 41 years.  Due to the pandemic the event had to be cancelled, but Houston decided to do it anyway and not let anything stop the transplant community from coming together… even if it meant the event had to be held virtually.
  • We’ve set up a virtual 5k event and have been blown away with the response. To date, we have 48 countries and all 50 USA states involved.  Thousands of people from all over the world are participating in a 5K and doing it any way they wish while also taking as long as they want between the dates of May 28 through June 4 to complete their activity.  Entire families are creating teams and doing it together. Some are walking, others are swimming, and many are choosing a favorite activity to log their 5K into the system. For the die-hard competitors and athletes we’ll have true winners getting awards.  For those who feel intimidated by the concept of a 5K, the following teams may be more your style to sign up for:
  1. Team Couch Potato:  http://bit.ly/team-couch-potato - Click the link to sign up now and join all of the people out there that love the cause, but want to “sit” it out

  1. Team Fur Friends:  http://bit.ly/Team-Woof-Woof - Click the link to sign up now if you are a pet owner and want to be on the team that walks their dog every day. Walking a few blocks every day adds up over a week, so put your steps together as a team and be counted!

  1. Team .5K:  http://bit.ly/team-halfk - .5K is less than half a mile and this group is for those leisurely walkers intimidated by a 5K
  • For every ten people who join a team (including the ones above), our global partner, Build-A-Bear, “unlocks” a teddy bear in the team name to be given to a child somewhere in the world who is currently on the organ transplant waitlist as a way of showing support and hope.  We have watched the stuffed bear bring a lot of smiles and joy to the children and families of those that have been receiving them so far.
  • TX Med Center, Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston Rockets, NASA, and over 75 organ transplant associations have all helped or partnered with us. There will be a live streamed celebration event on June 5 at 10am (U.S. Central Time) to see celebs, performances, and find out who won what awards from the 5K. The astronauts in space will kick off this event and we’ll use NASA’s satellite technology to help engage the whole world. In fact, the astronauts have already sent an initial promo message, to watch it click here:  https://youtu.be/DWQNaqOuDLQ

This is where our ask to you comes in... we want to log enough kilometers to start in Houston and go around the globe to end up back in Houston for the celebration event. Would you be willing to sign up with an existing team, start a team of your own, and/or send a link out to your database asking families to join our efforts? Help us get around the world and give out more teddy bears to children and families of children needing support. Only one more day left before the event begins!

Sincerely,

Lauren Goodman
